What, why, where, when?

What?
Project in a nutshell
The Aviation Museum will move to new premises during 2027. Along with the move, the museum will completely renew its exhibitions and services. The new Aviation Museum will take visitors on a journey through the history of aviation via stories, activities, and experiments, and challenge them to consider contemporary and future issues in aviation. The museum is a cozy place to spend time and a lively event space that also caters to the needs of corporate clients. It is a fascinating destination for families with children, young people, and experience seekers of all ages from near and far, as well as those interested in aviation and history.
The new Aviation Museum is being designed and implemented together with its visitors – join us on the journey to create the aviation history of the future!
Why?
The Aviation Museum needs new museum premises
Even a quick visit to the current Aviation Museum clearly highlights our need for new premises. In the customer feedback we receive, the cramped and cold conditions of the spaces are frequently mentioned. At the same time, we witness how aviation and its history, with its interesting personalities and stories, captivate people. The current premises do not allow for new exhibition design, and as a result, many fascinating stories remain unheard and unexperienced by visitors.
Our museum premises on Karhumäentie in the Aviapolis area of Vantaa are hopelessly aged, cramped, and dysfunctional. The main exhibition halls are unheated, making the conditions unfavorable for both museum objects and visitors. Additionally, the buildings owned by our foundation are located on a leased plot, with the lease agreement ending in 2028.

Where?
The new Aviation Museum will be built next to the old museum, near the airport
The new Aviation Museum will be built right next to the old museum in Vantaa’s Aviapolis. The short moving distance will streamline the transition from the old to the new and create flexible conditions for the project’s progress. On the same plot, Aviapolis High School will also be built, which will be connected to the new museum by a passageway.
The new Aviation Museum aims to be a place where everyone has the opportunity to realize and understand aviation-related matters and phenomena in a societal context. The new museum will become a significant national attraction and strengthen the appeal of the entire Aviapolis and airport area.
The city of Vantaa will invest heavily in the Aviapolis area in the coming years. One of the largest investments in the area is the Vantaa light rail, which will start operating in 2029. The light rail will continue the story of the Ring Rail Line by connecting the easternmost parts of the city to smooth rail transport, thus enabling the city’s growth sustainably along public transport routes.
The Aviapolis area will therefore grow and create its own unique urban culture, in which the new Aviation Museum will naturally play an essential role.

Support New Aviation Museum
The New Aviation Museum is being built with funding from the state, the city, and private sources. The total budget is 25 million euros. Private funding will enable exhibitions, services, and the relocation and storage of collections. For this purpose, our goal is to raise an additional 5 million euros for the project. So, we still need more money for the common pot!
