Ejection seat

The ejection seat of De Havilland Vampire. The Vampire was the Finnish Air Force’s first jet-powered fighter aircraft. Jet fighters were a significant innovation in their time compared to previous piston-engined aircraft. The jet fighters had a rocket-powered ejection seat that, in the event of a failure, would eject the pilot to a safe distance from the falling aircraft.
