Flight Data Recorder Fairchild Model F1000 (FDR), or flight recorder, in a bright orange metal case, with a cylindrical underwater acoustic beacon at the end. The cylinder produces acoustic sound underwater for a month and can be located by divers and a search device resembling the cylinder. On both sides of the orange box is the text ‘Flight Data Recorder’ and in French ‘Enregistreur de vol ne pas ouvrir’. The recorder was used in Finnair Oy’s DC-9-51 commercial aircraft OH-LYS probably until 1987.
