Finavia supports the preservation of Finnish aviation history

“The New Aviation Museum plays a significant role in preserving Finnish aviation history. Aviation has permanently transformed travel and business, building connections between people for decades. As part of the board of the Finnish Aviation Museum Foundation, we want to emphasize the positive impacts of aviation on Finnish society and culture and support the preservation of Finnish aviation history for future generations. The New Aviation Museum is a great attraction for tourism in Vantaa, located near the international Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, and supports the development of Aviapolis into an attractive district.”

Over 100 years of Finnair and aviation history

“The history of aviation, the history of independent Finland, and Finnair’s over 100-year history are closely intertwined. Aviation and Finnair have connected Finland to the world for over 100 years, bringing significant social and economic benefits to Finnish society. It is important to understand this history.

The Aviation Museum is an important partner for Finnair in preserving and cherishing our history. The museum’s values – curiosity, responsibility, and community – and the modern facilities of the New Aviation Museum bring history to life as part of today and the future. The New Aviation Museum also offers our customers flying through Helsinki-Vantaa Airport an interesting new stop near the airport and integrates into the strong tourism offerings of the Helsinki metropolitan area.

As a partner of the New Aviation Museum, Finnair is involved in preserving the history and future of aviation.”

Tuukka Kuusisto, CEO, Finnair Plc.

Patria's roots in aviation go back over a hundred years

“Partnership with the Finnish Aviation Museum offers Patria a unique opportunity to be part of a significant cultural project. The importance of aviation to society is immense, and the new Aviation Museum provides modern facilities and methods for presenting the history and present of aviation.

Military aviation has played a major role in the development of Finnish aviation, and the military aviation industry has been central to the development story of Finnish aviation technology. Patria’s roots in aviation go back over a hundred years, to the founding of the State Aircraft Factory in 1921. We want to enhance the museum’s ability to preserve and showcase the history and innovations in aviation that have also been crucial to Patria’s development.

The museum’s values, such as curiosity, responsibility, and community, align with Patria’s own values, which emphasize innovation, responsibility, and community. These values support the development and well-being of society in many ways. Through the museum, we can strengthen and share our collective memory and cultural heritage.”

Esa Rautalinko, CEO, Patria Plc.

Finnish aviation has a long tradition that stands strong internationally

“The Aviation Museum Society Finland is helping to build a path through history and support the construction of the New Aviation Museum. The new museum will make it possible to present aviation history and its significance to a wide audience using modern technology.

For us at the Aviation Museum Society Finland, this project continues more than five decades of work. We have played a key role in preserving aviation heritage. In the 1970s, we established a national aviation museum in Vantaa through voluntary efforts, and today’s professional museum is built on that foundation. Without the shared commitment of enthusiasts, aviation professionals, and other volunteers, the Finnish Aviation Museum would not exist.

The New Aviation Museum will ensure that Finland’s valuable aviation history is preserved and presented in appropriate facilities, in a modern, engaging, and inspiring way — while maintaining strong expertise and respect for the past.

Alongside knowledge and skills, passion has always been at the heart of the museum. Volunteers have been the core of both our association and the museum from the very beginning. The new museum will provide better conditions for this community to operate, grow, and have an even greater impact.

The Aviation Museum Association supports the project as its initiator, enabler, background organization, and advocate for aviation cultural heritage.”

The new home hangar of aviation history

“The history of aviation is the history of the Aviation Association. The Aviation Museum is like an important display case or family album for the Aviation Association. Over time, the collection grows, but not everything old is thrown away. Things are reorganized and improved. Perhaps a more functional display case or a larger album is acquired.

Collecting and maintaining aviation history, as well as promoting aviation by making aviation history known, has always been important to the Aviation Association. The Aviation Association’s timeline begins in 1919. Already in the early 1930s, we were concerned that there was no aviation museum in Finland. Even in the 2020s, we are involved in the administration of the Aviation Museum, defending the museum’s role in society.

The history of aviation is also the history of Finns. That is why the new aviation museum is important to all of us. All of us—individuals, companies, communities—now have the opportunity to experience the excitement of aviation and contribute to the creation of the best possible new aviation museum in Vantaa. Vantaa, as Finland’s aviation city, is the perfect place for an aviation museum.

We hope that the new aviation museum will become a new home for the Finnish Aviation Association and many other aviation-related organizations. The new Aviation Museum – aviation’s new home hangar, where you can learn, experience, enjoy, and hang out.”

The Aviation Museum as Vantaa's New Attraction

“Vantaa has high expectations for the new aviation museum. We believe it will become a nationally and internationally interesting experience center. Vantaa and the metropolitan area will gain a new attraction.

The new aviation museum is a uniquely interesting partner. The city of Vantaa is working closely with the Finnish Aviation Museum Foundation in the museum’s renovation work.

The location of the new museum is excellent. Over a million people live in the surrounding area. Transportation connections are great, and in the coming years, Vantaa’s new tram will bring visitors directly to the museum’s doorstep.

The incredible story of Finnish aviation deserves an incredible museum.”

Pekka Timonen, Mayor of Vantaa
