Welcome to explore the fascinating history of aviation!

We warmly welcome daycare and school groups to discover the story of Finnish aviation. The Finnish Aviation Museum’s collection focuses on aircraft designed or used by Finns and other aspects of Finnish aviation history. The museum’s exhibition features dozens of aircraft and many interesting objects.

You can order snacks from Café Yläpilvi, which is located at the museum. With advance arrangement through customer service, it is often also possible to bring and enjoy your own snacks.

Guided tours and workshops

General tour

On the general tour, you will explore the Aviation Museum’s exhibition and the key stages of Finnish aviation history, as well as aviation as part of society, guided by a tour guide. Duration 60 min.

Little Pilot's Flight School

In the Little Pilot’s Flight School, we explore together the basics of flying through observation and reflection, and understand the principles by which different types of aircraft found in the museum’s exhibition stay in the air. Duration 60 min.

Sky of War

On the tour, you will explore the history of domestic military aviation and the activities of the air force within the context of political history and international relations during the events of 1918, World War II, and the Cold War. Duration 60 min.

Air travel then and now

On the tour, you will explore the past and a bit of the present of Finnish air travel, and hear how a privilege for the few became an everyday mode of public transport. The tour also examines the environmental impacts of air travel and how you can influence them with your own choices. Duration 60 min.

Reasons and Consequences of Travel – Workshop

Responsible choices related to travel require both action models and historical perspective. In the workshop, you will explore the changes in air travel and practice media literacy and source criticism by examining how air travel has been depicted in materials produced by travel organizers. Students will also get to consider the environmental impacts of traveling by different modes of transport and how they can influence these impacts with their own choices. Duration 90 min.

Aviation Museum digitally

At the Aviation Museum’s Finna, you can explore schedules, menus, objects, and photographs.

Through the museum’s website, you can find, for example, a virtual tour of the history of the Helsinki-Vantaa airport area and an educational package on air traffic and climate change issues (in Finnish).

The audio guide tells about the main exhibits of the museum and is suitable for listening both in the exhibition and in your own time (in Finnish).
