Our hugging buddy Simppa welcomes ALL children to the Aviation Museum!

Our mascot, master of ceremonies Simppa, welcomes children to the Aviation Museum, where throughout the year, in addition to interesting exhibits, there are self-guided exhibition tours, a drawing station, reading materials, and board games.

During holidays and once a month on Sundays, our event calendar is filled with children’s programs.

The Children’s Day on May is the biggest event of the year, offering plenty to see and experience for the whole family. In addition to our own staff, several partners ensure a busy all-day event.

We also organize children’s birthday parties! You can order catering and the ‘Little Pilot’s Flight School’ guidance to complement the birthday celebrations.

We also welcome all daycare and school groups, for whom we offer age-appropriate workshops and guided tours: For school and early childhood education groups, we offer a general tour and the ‘Reasons and Consequences of Travel’ workshop, as well as the ‘Little Pilot’s Flight School’ children’s tour.

Opportunities for young people to engage in aviation hobbies, internships, and flying

We are a place of learning and experiences for young people. We offer young people work experience through internships. We regularly take young people for internships in the museum’s customer service and café. Through the internship, young people gain practical work experience, for example, in tourism or business studies. We have also received praise for our internship guidance.

The Aviation Museum can also be the first contact with working life, as we offer TET internship periods for 8th-9th graders. During the internship, you get to explore various tasks in the museum and gain work experience in different assisting tasks.

We also offer opportunities for various hobbies and collaborate with, for example, scouts. We have involved young people in planning events and content that interest them in the Hacklab project.

Our simulators are an excellent way to get a first experience of flying. The exhibitions include a fighter simulator Saab Draken, which is included in the admission fee, and with a reservation, you can fly additional simulators ranging from small aircraft to passenger planes for an extra fee.

Things happening at the Aviation Museum: Children's events, guided tours, activities, and personalized parties

We organize several public events throughout the year, some of which are in collaboration with our partners. The favorite events for families with children are the monthly ‘Children’s Sundays’ and the Children’s Days held in early summer, where you can spot customs dogs and airport rescue equipment, participate in partner programs, and explore inside the legendary DC-3!

You can book a guided tour along with your museum visit. The ‘Little Pilot’s Flight School’ is a special tour for children. For school and early childhood education groups, we offer a general tour and the ‘Reasons and Consequences of Travel’ workshop.

The Malmi Tuulenkävijät Air Scout Troop and the Aviation Museum have jointly created the ‘Partiolokki’ activity for the museum. In addition to scouts, anyone can participate in the activity. It’s a fun task for families or groups of friends. After completing the tasks, you can get the lovely Partiolokki badge from customer service.

We also serve as a venue for various private events. If you want to organize a birthday party or another special occasion, the Aviation Museum is the perfect place!

A comprehensive exhibition covering aviation history and interesting guided tours for adults

The Aviation Museum’s two large exhibition halls house aircrafts from throughout Finland’s aviation history. Additionally, there are numerous aviation-related items on display at our hangars, such as engines, propellers, instruments, and scale models. You can also admire basic gliders and sailplanes hovering above you. Tip: You can explore the interior of the Convair Metropolitan passenger plane!

For adult groups, there are many different guided tours available: The general tour introduces the main exhibition and, through its items, the key stages of Finland’s military and civil aviation history. The ‘Sky of War’ tour explores the history of Finnish military aviation. The ‘Air Travel Then and Now’ tour takes you on a time travel journey through the decades, showing how air travel evolved from a privilege of the few to a common mode of mass transportation. If you are interested in learning how the structure, materials, and power sources of fixed-wing aircraft have developed and what kinds of aircraft Finnish professionals and enthusiasts have designed and built over the decades, the ‘History of Aeronautical Engineering’ tour is the right choice

Aviation Museum for the culture lovers

The Aviation Museum is known for its events! Annual favorite events include Literature Days and the book auction, and the year culminates in the swinging concert of the ‘Finnair Pilots Big Band’ in the museum auditorium.

Our museum is also adorned with art! The sea eagle drawn in 1962 by the virtuoso of Finnish visual culture, Erik Bruun, is one of his most famous works. That majestic eagle spreads its wings in the museum auditorium, reminding us of the timelessness and impact of Bruun’s art.

Our auditorium is also decorated with stylish aviation history-themed paintings by former pilot Kari Vertanen; you can admire, for example, the flight of Väinö Bremer, a pioneer of Finnish aviation, around the world in a Junkers in the 1930s, the flight of the VL Myrsky II fighter in the Continuation War, or more modern equipment like Finnair’s magnificent A350. Explore Kari’s works at Ilmailutaiteilija Kari Vertanen | Kari Vertanen – Ilmailuaiheisia maalauksia

Our Avia conference room is decorated with aviation-themed works by Petri Kauppi. Kauppi says he uses several of his own photographs in each piece. His art can also be viewed on Instagram: @peteaviationphoto and Facebook: Pete-AviationPhoto.

Online, you can also explore the history of DC-3 aircraft, watch interesting videos about the history of our aircrafts, and listen to the museum’s audio guides.
